In a statement on Monday, the organisation’s secretary for indigenisation, Cde Vladimir Mukada said the allegations were meant to cause disharmony in the body.
“The ZNLWVA denies the story carried in the Daily News of June 1, 2011 where it is alleged that the chairman of the ZNLWVA Cde Jabulani Sibanda has been chased away from Masvingo province. The story is a complete falsification calculated to misinform, indeed mislead and cause confusion among our ranks at this crucial stage of the revolution,” Cde Mukada said.
He said Cde Sibanda was in Masvingo province carrying out a programme of the war veterans’ body and highlighting the achievements of the revolution. “The programme is focused on highlighting the achievements of the revolution particularly economic liberation through empowerment and indigenisation and recovery and re-distribution of our land (Gutsaruzhinji) as well as the importance of protecting these ideals,” he said.
Cde Mukada said the ZNLWVA was carrying out its programmes in Masvingo at the invitation of local leadership.
“In all cases the team visits or goes into an area at the invitation of the local community represented by the traditional leadership.
“As a matter of fact Cde Sibanda and the ZNLWVA team, which is in Masvingo, are there at the invitation of the various local leadership,” he said.
Cde Mukanda said the claims were coming from reactionaries and people opposed to empowerment.
ZNLWVA, he said, was an association of freedom fighters and would not harass or intimidate people.
“The ZNLWVA is an association of freedom fighters. It is not and will never be involved in the harassment or intimidation of the masses.
“The war veterans of the liberation of Zimbabwe from colonialism will continue to fight and stand to defend the ideals of unconditional total independence, liberation and empowerment of our people.
“It is only those who are opposed to these ideals who seek to tarnish the image of ZNLWVA by making false allegations,” he said.
Cde Mukada said the recent murder of Inspector Petros Mutedza has shown who the perpetrators of violence in the country were.
Twelve MDC-T activists have appeared in court in connection with the killing.
