WAR veterans are excited about the outcome of the recently held harmonised elections where President Mnangagwa and his party Zanu PF emerged victorious, Secretary for the War Veterans League Cde Douglas Mahiya has said.

After emerging victorious, Zanu PF has already indicated that it is ready to work with all progressive opposition political parties who participated in the just ended elections for the benefit of the people.

In the elections, President Mnangagwa won by 52,6 percent against CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa who got 44 percent of the vote.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, Cde Mahiya said all political parties should respect the will of the people and the country’s Constitution.

“The Constitution requires us to go for elections after every five years and that is what we have done and who are you to say it is null and void. We are saying let’s respect the Constitution,” said Cde Mahiya.

He called upon those who participated in the just ended elections to work towards the development of the country.

Cde Mahiya said the opposition is not barred from contributing to national development.

“Let them bring their ideas so that those ideas will be incorporated in the economic development programme of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Cde Mahiya commended war veterans for their full participation during the campaign period as they went to the grassroots to educate the people about the good works of President Mnangagwa.

“As a party we still maintain our revolutionary principles, the principle of the minority being subordinate to the majority and this is what the elections have revealed. The people of Zimbabwe have spoken and any other individual has no right not to accept what the people of Zimbabwe have said. The people of Zimbabwe have spoken loudly and clearly that they have chosen their only beloved, a listening President Cde Mnangagwa who leads a revolutionary party, to be their leader in the next five years and no one has the right to stop that from happening”.
