Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans secretary-general, Cde Shadreck Makombe was yesterday seriously injured after his Nissan Wolf vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a Mazda twin cab truck in Gweru. The accident happened yesterday evening along the City- Mkoba via Mambo road.
When Chronicle visited the accident scene, there was traffic-jam and the damaged vehicles were still to be towed away. Traffic police had a nightmarish experience controlling traffic. Gweru’s fire fighting team was already at the scene while Cde Makombe and the other injured people from the Mazda SDX twin cab were rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The condition of the injured people who were traveling in the Mazda truck could not be ascertained at the time of going to press. Their truck (the Mazda SDX) was a complete write-off.

Cde Makombe was scheduled to address a press conference whose agenda was yet to be known when he was involved in the accident.
He was bleeding from the nose and he sustained visible head injuries. Cde Makombe was rushed to Claybank Private Hospital.

In a telephone interview while on his way to the hospital, Cde Makombe said the driver of the Madza SDX which was driving from the City encroached into his lane resulting in the head on collision.

“I was coming from Mkoba when a Mazda SDX suddenly encroached in my lane. I tried to avoid the head on but could not manage,” he said.
When Chronicle news screw later visited Clay Bank Private Hospital, it was denied entry with the medical team running around while attending to Cde Makombe whose condition could not be ascertained then.

His mobile phone was now being answered by his personal assistant, Cde Hamphrey Makuyana who said he was yet to see Cde Makombe.
