THE Warriors’ commendable showing at the African Nations Championships in South Africa has seen them storming back into the top 100 on the Fifa Coca Cola World Ranking. According to the rankings released yesterday, Zimbabwe are now placed 27th in Africa and 100 on the global rankings.
The Warriors accumulated 330 points during the period under review.
They were ranked 105th in the world and 29th on Caf list last month.
Zimbabwe did well at the CHAN tournament where they finished in fourth place after losing 0-1 to Nigeria in the third place play-off.
During the group matches, Ian Gorowa’s charges drew with Morocco and Uganda while they beat Burkina Faso to earn a quarter-final slot.
Zimbabwe beat Mali 2-1 in the quarter-finals but then came unstuck against Libya in the semi-final where they lost in a penalty shoot-out.
Kuda Mahachi and Partson Jaure were named in the CHAN All-Star team with Peter Moyo coming in as a substitute.
Simba Sithole of How Mine has since moved to Ajax Cape Town while Mahachi, Jaure, Eric Chipeta and Chigova attracted interest from South African clubs.
During the CHAN finals, the Warriors played in an Umbro kit and Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede yesterday said the association were still looking for a technical partner.
Gumede said Umbro were free to submit their bid once Zifa open the tenders for the kits.
Gumede also revealed that Ian Gorowa has been offered a contract and negotiations should be finalised before the end of this month.
