Warriors’ match fees slashed - herald

Warriors’ match fees slashed

Sports Reporter

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) has cut the match fees of players called up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria from an initial US$1 000 to US$500.

With 20 of the 28-member provisional squad based abroad, some players have voiced concerns over the reduction.

The reduction of match fees has caused issues with previous administrations, who have clashed with players over bonuses in the past.

One senior player yesterday said:

“The committee is telling us that they have no money to give us that’s why they have decided to slash.

“But we feel it’s not fair on us as players because we expect them to do better than the previous leaders.”

He said the issue of players’ earnings is a private matter and, as such, he could not comment.

“That is private information between the players and the association. I cannot be discussing such confidential information, pertaining to players’ salaries, with third parties,” said the veteran administrator.

Mutasa said players would start arriving in camp in Rwanda this weekend ahead of the game.

“We expect the foreign-based players, especially those that do not have matches on Saturday to start coming on the 12th (Sunday). They will meet up with the rest of the squad in Rwanda where they will train for the match.”
