Coach Norman Mapeza and his lieutenants yesterday held a meeting as they discussed preparations for the 2012 African Nations Cup Group A qualifying tie against Mali.
Warriors’ manager Sharif Mussa said they will next week come up with a provisional list of 23 players to go into camp.
Zimbabwe will host the Eagles of Mali in Harare on June 5 and Mussa said they would leave no stone unturned in their preparations.
Mapeza draws most of his players from the South African Premiership, which should be ending on May 21 and Mussa wants the players selected to immediately come into camp.
“We are proposing that the team should be going into camp on May 23 so that we have a proper two weeks of preparations before the game.
“But going into camp will depend on the funds and resources from Zifa.
“If Zifa give us the resources, then we will camp for two weeks but if it’s unfortunate that we don’t have the financial resources, we will work with the one-week camp,” said Mussa.
Mapeza will be considering Kaizer Chiefs hotshot Knowledge Musona and his teammates Tinashe Nengomasha and Thomas Sweswe and goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini
Striker Nyasha Mushekwi and skipper Method Mwanjali play for South African side Mamelodi Sundowns while midfielder Khama Billiart is chasing the Premiership title with Ajax Cape Town.
The Warriors also hope to include France-based Ovidy Karuru and Justice Majabvi who plays for Austrian side Lask Linz.
Defender Noel Kaseke, who missed the trip to Mali due to an injury, has now recovered and featured for his side Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus as they finished the league race in second place.
Al-Hilal striker Edward Sadomba is one of the key players expected to lead the attack while Vusa Nyoni has since completed his season with Germinal Beerschot in Belgium’s Jupiler League.
Zimbabwe are third in the pool with two points from three games while Cape Verde lead the table with seven points.
Mali are second with Liberia bottom of the group with a single point.
The Warriors will the host Liberia on September 4 before travelling to Cape Verde in October.
