Warriors to get foreign coach?

The issue could come up at a Zifa general meeting this morning.

Zifa Assembly members will tour the Zifa Village in Mount Hampden this morning ahead of the association’s extra-ordinary general meeting later.

This was confirmed by the chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze. He would not shed more light on the tour.

But it is the assembly meeting that the nation is keeping its eyes on. Mashingaidze disclosed during the course of the week that the Asiagate and national teams’ coaches issue would be on the agenda.

Zifa accepted Rahman Gumbo’s resignation on Thursday. The former Highlanders and FC Platinum coach threw in the towel on Tuesday two days before Zifa were to fire him for failing to reach the finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations set for South Africa. With a 3-1 home lead, Gumbo saw his lads collapse in six minutes and bowing out 3-4 to Angola in the final qualifier after Manucho struck devastatingly with headers in Luanda last month.

Since then it was a question of who would strike first, Zifa or Gumbo.

Sensing the embarrassment which goes with being fired, Gumbo stepped down. Mashingaidze confirmed that Gumbo’s resignation had been accepted.

It is now the way forward that Zimbabweans want to hear.

Engaging local coaches has proven a problem as they are often accused of biased selection and being influenced by greedy player agents.

Sources in the capital suggest that Zifa are courting the Germany government for a coach who could come on a government to government arrangement like what brought the late Reinhard Fabisch in the 1990s.
