Washie enjoys victory

Magariro as Dynamos claimed another victory over CAPS United in the 70th edition of the Harare Derby at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

Pakamisa, who seems to have been endorsed by the majority of the hard-to-please DeMbare faithful following a good run of form in the last month, was over the moon as he celebrated his side’s victory over former paymasters CAPS United.

Midfielder Devon Chafa scored the solitary goal that separated the teams from the penalty spot as DeMbare stretched their winning record to eight league games between the two sides in a dominant run that stretches back to 2009.

“On my Dynamos side I feel happy but for CAPS United I feel very sad for them. But it’s only a game of football,” said Pakamisa.

The stocky forward has been enjoying good form of late, scoring six goals in the last four games before the derby.

Pakamisa seems to have done enough to win over the majority of the Dynamos fans, some of whom doubted his abilities, following a sluggish start when he switched allegiance to the blue half of the city at the beginning of the season.

It was no surprise the DeMbare family had tipped him to make a difference in the derby as he faced the club that groomed and introduced him to professional football.

But yesterday he was not given the opportunity to add to his goal tally of six goals, which makes him joint top goal scorer with Chicken Inn’s Tendai Ndoro and Osbourne Mukuradare of Harare City after 10 games.

Pakamisa said he tried his best, under very difficult circumstances yesterday, saying he was under pressure in the game.

“There was pressure but we managed to handle it. But the fact that I couldn’t score, it’s not that it was the pressure but I just didn’t get a clear chance. I wanted to score but it could not happen,” said Pakamisa.

Clive Kawing also shared the joy but for Magariro, who switched to the opposite side at the beginning of the season, the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow.

He partenered the impressive Anorld Chivheya in the heart of the defence and felt the game could have gone either way had CAPS United made good use of their chances.

“It happens in football,” he said.

“But I think it was a balanced game and we missed chances. We could have managed to score one or two goals from the chances that we had. We had done well to contain their strikers so that they couldn’t score in open play. That’s what we had aimed for. Now we go back to correct our mistakes.”

Scorer of the goal that made all the difference, Devon Chafa, felt CAPS United were strong yesterday unlike on the other occasions they have faced them.

He said he was happy his goal made the difference after sending goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube the wrong way from the penalty spot.

“It feels good to score knowing the calibre of this game,” said Chafa who has been one of the standout players of the season.

“Sometimes you just have to play your heart out, both teams had their chances.

“So we got our goal and then maintained our lead.”
