A 39-YEAR-OLD woman from Emthunzini suburb in Bulawayo has been slapped with a five-year jail sentence after she stabbed Sithembile Dube (38) with a knife on her chest in a dispute over clothes that had fallen from a washing line.

Jester Tshuma appeared before a Western Commonage magistrate facing a charge of attempted murder. She was convicted and sentenced. The court heard that on 19 February 2024 at around 1200 hours, Tshuma had a misunderstanding with Dube over her clothes which had fallen from the washing line. They had an altercation over the issue.

At around 1300 hours, Dube went to fetch water at the borehole and the culprit followed her and asked her to repeat what she was saying earlier.  Dube asked Tshuma to leave her alone but she advanced towards her and pushed her before grabbing her T-shirt.

Bigboy Nyathi tried to restrain the two and Tshuma immediately pulled out a knife from her pocket and stabbed Dube once on the left side of the chest. She sustained a deep cut and bled profusely. The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to Tshuma’s arrest.
