ZIMBABWEAN food lovers, get ready for a gastronomic adventure. The Beach House at Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare is hosting “A Taste of Argentina – Summer Edition” on September 14 and 15 under the guidance of Dubai-based sommelier Joe Mangena.

The partnership between Beach House and Asadito to bring the taste of Argentina to Zimbabwe was inspired by a desire to enrich the cultural and culinary landscape of Zimbabwe.

“Beach House is a prime location, perfect to host an event of this magnitude. A Taste of Argentina fosters diversity, encourages creativity, and builds bridges between different cultures. This is the second edition; we did the first pop-up on 12 and 13 April at the Highlanders Sports Pub & Restaurant,” said Mangena.

At the helm of this culinary journey are two Argentine chefs, Chef Juan Pablo and Chef Ierick Christensen, who are set to showcase the authentic flavours of Argentina during the two exclusive events.

“Union makes something incredible, magic comes out when two cultures unite for a purpose. Every bite shares a story and in every story, it strengthens friendship beyond our comfort zones,” said Chef Juan Pablo.

On 14 September, attendees can expect a Welcome Drinks & Dinner event featuring an authentic Argentine menu with traditional dishes such as empanadas, asado (barbecue), and chimichurri sauce, expertly paired with refreshing beverages and wines. The following day’s Lunch event promises an once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience that celebrates the joy of sharing fantastic food and drinks with friends.

The highlight of the event lies in the preparation of the asado and grilled meats, which symbolise a cultural connection beyond the grill. “Asado is not a hurried affair; it’s a slow and deliberate process that demands patience and precision. This culinary experience caters to both seasoned foodies and those looking to try something new. Argentine asado is not merely a meal; it’s a cultural experience that invites guests to share in the tradition and indulge in the camaraderie that makes Argentinean cuisine truly special,” said Mangena.

Mangena has been pushing the Zimbabwean brand in Dubai, where his visionary leadership has led Gohan to win the Favourite Japanese Restaurant gong at the What’s On Awards Dubai, the United Arab Emirates’ largest food and entertainment industry awards, and the only awards voted for by the public.

He boasts a career spanning more than a decade in the winery and food business and has been living in the UAE for the past decade.

Mangena said the choice of hosting this event at Beach House Borrowdale Racecourse was highly recommended by South American expats living in Zimbabwe, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the experience.

The event not only enriches the culinary scene in Zimbabwe but also opens doors for future international collaborations. By introducing Argentine cuisine, A Taste of Argentina promotes cultural exchange, inspires culinary innovation, enhances the local food scene, and strengthens international relations between Zimbabwe and Argentina.

Asadito’s expertise in Argentine cuisine will undoubtedly elevate the experience for attendees, transporting them to the heart of Argentina through a culinary journey like no other. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
