THE picturesque Mystique Gardens in Four Winds, Bulawayo, hosted a significant marital union last Saturday as Makhosi Bhebhe and Nozipho Baloyi exchanged vows. The presence of Vice-President Chiwenga and his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, lent national prominence to the celebration, which was deeply personal for the Second Family, as Colonel Baloyi-Chiwenga is the sister of the bride’s late mother.
Already a landmark occasion, the attendance of the Vice-President and his wife transformed the event into an unforgettable moment. Demonstrating their commitment to being “one with the people,” the Vice-President and his wife were a picture of relaxed engagement. Eschewing a heavy security detail, they mingled effortlessly with guests, sharing warm conversations and laughter, and fully immersing themselves in the celebratory atmosphere. Their approachable demeanour was widely appreciated, showcasing a relatable image of the Chiwenga family participating in a cherished milestone.
Orchestrating the event’s seamless flow was Bulawayo’s esteemed master of ceremonies, Ngqabutho “Umuntu Omkhulu” Mlotshwa. Celebrated for his exceptional event-directing prowess, Mlotshwa masterfully guided the proceedings with a signature blend of professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
The pinnacle of acknowledgement for Mlotshwa came unexpectedly during the reception. As the festivities reached a joyful peak, Vice-President Chiwenga took a moment to publicly commend the man steering the celebration.
“Master of Ceremonies, Mr Mlotshwa. What a wonderful Master of Ceremonies!” the Vice-President declared, his voice resonating across the gardens. This powerful and spontaneous endorsement from the nation’s Vice-President was met with a chorus of applause, leaving Mlotshwa profoundly moved.
Reflecting on the gesture, Mlotshwa described it as “beyond words.”
“To be publicly acknowledged and declared a great Master of Ceremonies by His Excellency the Vice-President, in front of this gathering, is an honour of immense proportions. It truly adds a significant feather to my career and motivates us to continue elevating the standards of event production in Zimbabwe.”

He is the visionary behind the widely acclaimed Bridal and Lifestyle Fair and has also directed critical state functions, the high-profile Bulawayo Arts Awards, and major events in South Africa. His ability to handle diverse events with consistent flair has cemented his reputation as “Umuntu Omkhulu” — a title meaning “The Great Person” or “The Important One.”
