Mthabisi Tshuma in BAMBADZI, BULILIMA
MINISTER of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera on Saturday officially opened the Bambadzi base station in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South province.
The base station commonly referred to as booster will serve communities in Bambadzi Ward 10 and villages in neighbouring Botswana.
The project aims to address long-standing connectivity challenges in the area, which has historically relied on weak and unreliable network signals from neighbouring Botswana.
This had resulted in exorbitant roaming charges and persistent difficulties in accessing a stable connection.
However, a new chapter has been unfolded for the Bambadzi community.
Minister Mavetera was accompanied by ICT Deputy Minister Dingumuzi Phuti, ICT permanent secretary Dr Beaulah Chirume and ICT Ministry officials.
Also present at the official opening ceremony was Chief Madlambudzi, Chief Masendu, Chief Hikwa, Chief Mphini, Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) deputy director general Mr Alfred Marisa, Potraz board chairperson Professor Sam Takavarasha Jnr, Potraz executive director USF, Postal and Courier Services, Mr Kennedy Dewera among other stakeholders from the ICT sector.
The Zanu PF Bulilima District leadership was led by chairman Cde Felix Ncube, sitting and shadow councillors, provincial and district members from Bulilima and Mangwe party districts.
