BIG spender Wicknell Chivayo has come to Highlanders’ rescue once again — bailing out the Bulawayo giants by settling all outstanding signing-on fees and winning bonuses from the 2024 season.
The Bosso boys were owed a whopping US$57 000, but thanks to Chivayo’s wallet wizardry, the debt is now history.
Players confirmed they’ve already received their dues, just days before their Castle Lager Premiership showdown with Greenfuel at Barbourfields Stadium.
Chivayo, who has already paid US$20 000 to clear the club’s FIFA-related debt involving ex-coach Brito Baltemar and his assistant, is now pumping US$1 million into Highlanders between now and January 2026.
His man on the ground, Jabulani Nkomo, confirmed the cash injection:
“We started with the winning bonuses. The executive gave us the figure, and we’ve disbursed the US$57K. The mission to deliver the donor’s promise is in motion.”
The first US$250,000 tranche is already in, and part of it will go towards an 800-metre perimeter wall at the Highlanders Clubhouse — putting structure behind the style.
Bosso treasurer Nkani Khoza was visibly relieved:
“Finally, I can get some sleep!”
Captain Ariel Sibanda, flanked by deputies Andrew Mbeba and Melikhaya Ncube, also confirmed the feel-good news:
“We received the winning bonuses. The boys are raring to go!”
With Chivayo now effectively bankrolling Bosso’s revival, Sunday’s Barbourfields clash promises fireworks.
