GWERU was left stunned this afternoon after a woman from Bulawayo allegedly threw herself under a moving haulage truck in a gruesome scene that shocked witnesses at the intersection of Lobengula Avenue and 8th Street.
Moments before the tragedy, the woman had been seen frantically running around the city claiming she was being chased. She even approached the security guard at the Zimpapers Gweru Office saying her life was in danger.
“She told me some people were following her. But honestly, I thought she was hallucinating,” the guard said.
Eyewitnesses said the woman was clearly distressed, at one point standing in the middle of the road, forcing cars to swerve to avoid hitting her.
But when a haulage truck approached the intersection, the driver hooted to warn her off the road, and she momentarily stepped aside — only to hurl herself under the trailer.
Witnesses described the chilling moment the truck crushed her body, tearing it into two halves, killing her instantly.
The motive behind her terrifying final act remains unknown. Police are investigating the incident and have appealed to anyone who may have more information.
Gweru residents are still reeling from the shocking scenes that turned an ordinary afternoon into a nightmare.
