Nqobile Bhebhe in Mutare
The City of Bulawayo has thrown its full support behind the decision to host the 2025 edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo in Mutare, hailing the move as an opportunity to learn from modern exhibition practices.
This marks the first time in the Expo’s 18-year history that it is being held outside Bulawayo, as the 2025 edition aligns with the Government’s devolution agenda.
Speaking to Zimpapers Business Hub at the ongoing event at Mutare Sports Club, BCC Economic Development officer Bulawayo, Mr Kholisani Moyo, said the city is enthusiastic about participating in this year’s historic showcase.
“Some people from Bulawayo have been complaining, saying this event, Sanganai, has moved to Mutare and maybe it’s a disadvantage to Bulawayo,” said Mr Moyo.
“To us it’s not a disadvantage, so to say. It gives us an opportunity to learn what other provinces are handling in terms of these events. When we then come back to Bulawayo, we hope we can also improve in hosting such events.”
Speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said the rotational move reflects the Second Republic’s commitment to equitable development across provinces.
“The decision decentralises tourism benefits and strengthens the visibility and inclusivity of provincial tourism initiatives,he said.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry in partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the annual Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi Expo has evolved into Africa’s premier tourism marketplace.
The event brings together local and international tourism players to showcase the continent’s rich travel offerings while facilitating robust business engagement.
