BULAWAYO Independent Colleges Association (Bica) will play host to the national athletics championships.
On Friday over a dozen of the colleges clashed at Founders High School in the 2026 Bica Track and Field Championships.

They will choose the team to represent Bulawayo at the national games that Bulawayo will play host to on February 27.

Over a thousand athletes gathered at Founders and competed in both track and field events braving the mid-morning and afternoon heat.

Elliot Ndlovu, the secretary-general of Bica and head of Feelit Institute in Cowdray Park confirmed that the colleges had some years ago come together to form a sports association. He said under the banner of the National Independent Colleges Association of Zimbabwe (Nicaz) they stage the national games.

“In Zimbabwe we have got an association where we are affiliated, which is Nicaz, that is where we are affiliated, this association has been existence for some time, it’s grown from strength to strength, Bulawayo is hosting them (national finals), it should be month end of this month, the 27th of February,” said Ndlovu.

The first term is reserved for athletics with ball games split in the other two terms.

Zwelibanzi Dube from the district education office’s informal education department commended the schools’ gesture in providing pupils with an opportunity to excel in sport.
