AS Bulawayo residents gear up for the festive season, police this morning hosted at session with members of the public to give them tips for safe and peaceful holidays at a local hotel.
The engagement was also attended by the media.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said common crimes during the festive season include theft in motor vehicles, home burglaries and muggings.
“Criminals know that every woman carries a handbag and when a female driver locks their car without carrying one (handbag), they break into the vehicle in search of valuables. We advise members of the public not to leave laptops, handbags and any valuables in their vehicles.
“We have dealt with many cases where drivers leave keys in the ignition to rush into a shop only to find their vehicle stolen so we urge drivers to lock their vehicles regardless of the time that they will spend in a shop,” said Asst Insp. Msebele.
She urged residents not to leave their homes unattended when travelling for the festive season as criminals tend to target valuable appliances and furniture.
