VOLUNTARY compliance to regulations in any country is always a virtue, and for Mrs Lethukuthula Gumbo-Sibanda of the Mahatshula suburb in Bulawayo, this comes with a reward.
When she participated in the recent Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) competition, Mrs Gumbo-Sibanda could not imagine what lay ahead until yesterday when she was officially handed her prize for compliance, a Honda Fit Hybrid vehicle.
Zinara organised the licence and win draw promotion, which was held during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) last month. The promotion ran from 6 March to 29 April and the draw was conducted virtually.
More than 1 000 other motorists from across the country won one-year licences courtesy of Zinara and Mrs Gumbo-Sibanda was lucky to be among the two who got grand prizes in the form of a car.
Receiving her prize at the Zinara offices at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre yesterday, Mrs Gumbo-Sibanda could not hide her excitement as she paid tribute to Zinara.
“I am happy because this doesn’t happen to anyone but it has happened to me. I urge other road users to pay for their licences.
“I don’t know anyone at Zinara or Zimpost but here I am. I just saw my name among the winners, so just pay your licences and it can happen to you as well,” she said.
“I am a young entrepreneur and I have won this car and I intend to keep it for myself.”
Zinara held the promotion in partnership with Zimpost and Sanctuary Insurance.
Zinara southern region, Engineer Enock Masocha, said they decided to award responsible motorists who pay their licences on time, a deviation from promoting non-compliant motorists through exempting them from penalties during the ZITF period.
“Throughout all these years Zinara used to run a promotion whereby during ZITF all the clients who will be owing we remove the penalty for them,” he said.
“So, clients were now used to that. But this year we decided to change the strategy and we said it’s time for us to reward those clients who are compliant.
“So, this year we ran a promotion using our IT system, which was very transparent to make sure that there was little human integration, and we said those clients who are 100 percent compliant with Zinara are going to get a prize.
“It was a way to give back to the community and encourage our motorists to continue paying their licences as it allows road maintenance, which benefits motorists themselves as it reduces vehicle operating costs.”— @SikhulekelaniM1
