CHILDREN of Zimbabwe War Veterans Association (ZWVA) have appealed to Government to increase the age limit for school fees assistance given to veterans’ children from the current cap of 30 years.
Speaking during an interview ahead of a Veterans Community interface meeting with the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Monica Mavhunga set to take place at the Lupane Town Board Hall today, a member of the national committee representing Matabeleland North Cde Melody Munsaka said a number of their members started school late as their parents were in the bush fighting the British settlers.
“It will be good for the Government to increase the 30-year school fees assistance cap. We have some of our members who started school late, some got into Grade One when they were already teenagers and to limit the assistance to 30 years means they will struggle to get full education. We hope the Minister will address this today,” said Cde Munsaka.
She said they also wanted a 20 percent mining quota in mining, which will help to economically empower the veterans’ children.
“We note and appreciate the assistance which Government, through His Excellency President Mnangagwa has so far extended to us as the children of the war veterans but we feel these, which I have mentioned must also be considered, including housing in various local authorities,” said Cde Munsaka.
