FORMER tear-away winger Collin Nyambiya, known for his electric pace and dazzling dribbling, says playing alongside the late Willard Khumalo at Ziscosteel was one of the highlights of his career.
Nyambiya’s playing career included stints at Ziscosteel, Railstars, Highlanders FC and Shabanie Mine.
Speaking on his 47th birthday, he named Khumalo among the greatest players he had the privilege to play with.
Khumalo was a key figure for the Young Warriors, Highlanders FC, and the Zimbabwe senior national team, having burst onto the scene in 1983. He led the Young Warriors to regional titles and helped Highlanders FC secure over a dozen trophies. Khumalo was also a vital member of Reinhard Fabisch’s Dream Team.
“I have been in the game since primary school and have had the opportunity to play alongside greats like Willard Khumalo at Ziscosteel, Tapuwa Kapini and Honour Gombami at Highlanders, Mulenga Chewe and Anderson Phiri at Railstars, and Thomas Makwasha, Asani Juma, and Phillip Sithole at Shabanie,” said Nyambiya.
He also described playing in Europe, specifically in Albania, as one of his career highlights.
“Going to Europe and having the chance to play there was a major milestone,” Nyambiya added.
He is a former Premier Soccer League second top goalscorer, achieving this feat in 2002 and also finished as top goalscorer in the Southern Region Division One.
