THE Gwanda community has expressed support for the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 3) Bill, 2026, saying it has the potential to usher in much-needed development.
Community members from various wards in both rural and urban Gwanda gathered at West Nicholson factory, where they endorsed the proposed amendments. Among the key changes in the Bill are the introduction of a parliamentary process for the election of the
President and the replacement of the current five-year presidential term with a seven-year tenure.
The Bill also proposes a raft of legal reforms aimed at strengthening constitutional governance, clarifying institutional roles, promoting political stability and enhancing the efficiency of the State architecture.
Parliament of Zimbabwe has since deployed 11 teams across the country to conduct public hearings on the proposed amendments.
The hearings mark a critical stage in Zimbabwe’s constitutional reform process, providing citizens with a platform to contribute to changes that could significantly reshape the country’s electoral framework and governance structure.
The four-day outreach programme, which runs until Thursday, is being conducted across all 64 districts, with thousands of Zimbabweans expected to participate.
The final hearing for Matabeleland South Province is scheduled to take place in Beitbridge on Thursday.
