THE Municipality of Gwanda has confirmed a temporary disruption to water supplies following flooding at Mtshabezi Bridge, which has affected key components at the town’s water treatment plant.
In a statement, Gwanda mayor, Alderman Thulani Moyo, said the flooding had damaged electro-mechanical components, necessitating an urgent shutdown of the plant.
“The Municipality of Gwanda wishes to inform its esteemed residents and stakeholders that there is a temporary disruption in water supply across the town.
This interruption has been necessitated by recent flooding and our water treatment plant has been severely affected. The flooding has impacted some of the electro-mechanical components, requiring a complete shutdown of the treatment plant.
“Residents are urged to utilise their current stored supplies sparingly during this brief maintenance period, make use of community boreholes and ensure that any water collected from alternative sources is boiled or treated before domestic use as a standard precaution.
The council apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured residents that efforts are underway to restore normal services.
“The Municipality of Gwanda sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are committed to restoring normal service in the shortest possible timeframe and will provide further updates as the work nears completion,” said Alderman Moyo.
