FOLLOWING a spellbinding performance in Harare last week during the Ecobank Legends Night, the vibrant and dynamic, InTotal Band, is now poised to make its debut in Bulawayo.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, Hall Two, on the June 14. Notably, this occasion marks the first time the Ecobank Legends Night will be held twice within the same year.
The concert serves as a celebration of Zimbabwean music legends, who so significantly paved the way for emerging talent, with the InTotal Band breathing invigorating new life into cherished classics from their repertoire.
Last weekend’s sold-out show at the Harare International Conference Centre proved to be among the most energetic and well-attended events in the capital, with the Ecobank Legends Night distinguishing itself through its electrifying atmosphere and its rich musical homage to the nation’s musical heritage.

Joseph Chinouriri, the band director and accomplished saxophonist, expressed genuine excitement about bringing the show to Bulawayo, stating that their primary focus is not on sheer audience numbers but rather on delivering a truly meaningful and thoroughly enjoyable musical experience for all those in attendance.
“I’d like to thank everyone who attended the Ecobank Legends Night in Harare last Sunday. The venue was packed — it was truly a sold-out show,” he said.
“People have been asking us to bring the show to Bulawayo, and we’ve listened. This time, it’s not about numbers; it’s about purpose. We’re here to have fun and to celebrate great Zimbabwean music.”
Chinouriri promised an unforgettable experience for the Bulawayo edition, as the band continues to dazzle audiences with their renditions of classic songs spanning genres such as sungura, Dendera, Chimurenga, gospel and urban grooves. In Harare, the band’s setlist featured timeless hits such as Special Meat, Tsaona, Mabhauwa, Nemumvura Mese, Mbereko Yakaramba, Rudo Imoto, Chitekete, Solona Mutsai, Rudo Runokosha, Zvazoitika, Mugove and Banolila — songs that have become anthems across generations of Zimbabweans.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind Legends Night, Chinouriri shared that the idea was born out of their deep respect for Zimbabwe’s musical pioneers.
“I played for Dr Oliver Mtukudzi for a few years until his passing, and I was fortunate to be mentored by him. In 2020, I held a tribute show in his honour. Later, I teamed up with my friends Naphtali Chivandikwa and Takakunda Mukundu and we created Legends Night to honour all those who shaped Zimbabwean music,” he said.
When asked about supporting acts for the Bulawayo show, Chinouriri mentioned that logistics are still being finalised, but the spotlight will remain firmly on the band.

“This is like our own version of Coachella. All eyes are on the band.”
As for the playlist, Chinouriri explained that it is a collaborative process.
“We sit down and compile a list of legendary artistes, then carefully select songs that best represent their impact.”
Formed in 2014, InTotal Band is made up of Chinouriri (saxophone and band leader), Takakunda Mukundu (lead guitar) and Naphtali Chivandikwa (bass). The band’s name was inspired by a phrase used during a “Jesus and Jazz” concert hosted by their friend Mbaki Nleya, where the words “InTotal” stood out and resonated with their collective spirit.
“We came together after performing at Bona Mugabe’s wedding, which drew a great deal of attention. The demand for our performance grew and I spoke to Naphtali afterwards — we decided to build a team,” said Chinouriri.
