FOR years, Shekinah Nathan Ndlovu, better known as Kinah The Music, has been the omnipresent guitarist backing a who’s-who of Bulawayo’s musical talent. But the, “Outstanding Newcomer” NAMA award winner is poised to remind everyone he’s far more than a sideman, as he gears up to release his poignant new single and visuals, “Wangithembisa”, featuring local duo The Noisemakers.
Known for his session work with luminaries like Vuyo Brown, Holy Rey, Selmor Mtukudzi, Jeys Marabini, Tariro NeGitare, Msiz’kay, ASAPH, and The Outfit Band, Kinah has built a formidable reputation as a versatile musician.
However, his solo artistry, showcased in his debut EP “Music and My Feelings” featuring tracks like “Lockdown” and “Adamant Lovers”, and his acclaimed song, “R.O.O.T.”, reveals a distinct vocal talent and songwriting depth.
Now, Kinah The Music is channelling personal heartache into his latest offering. Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Kinah described “Wangithembisa” as a raw exploration of romantic disillusionment.
“This song is a heartbreak amalgamation of mistimed feelings,” Kinah explained.
He delves into the painful scenario where “due to the girl knowing that the guy is recovering [from previous heartbreak], she fails to tell him that she’s no longer in love and dates him out of pity.” This deception, he says, inevitably leads to others alerting the man that he’s being played, suspicions fueled by the woman’s increasingly “suspicious” behaviour and “unresponsive” love.
The track, spearheaded by Mthabisi Ncube and meticulously mixed and mastered by Taffy Gee, promises a blend of Kinah’s soulful vocals and the collaborative energy of The Noisemakers. The accompanying visuals will further bring this emotional narrative to life.
Kinah is no stranger to major stages, having toured with Mai Mwamuka and performed at prestigious events including Coca Cola Unplugged Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), Jacaranda Festival, Intwasa Arts Festival, a UN Virtual Concert, the European Film Festival Zimbabwe, and the Festival of Lights. This extensive experience underpins his confident step forward as a lead artiste. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
