Watch: Magwegwe High School Poised To Win

MAGWEGWE High School was at lunch on Wednesday, close to clinching the Mzilikazi District National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) Track and Field Shield.

The event is at White City Stadium, which had a full capacity crowd in attendance and the usual athletics ambience of the colourful clad officials.

The school led the medal table with its athletes set to dominate the team that will take part in the provincial finals in a fortnight.

At lunch, Magwegwe had 38 medals, of which 21 were gold, 12 silver and five bronze. With gold priced, they sat at the top of the standings despite a strong fight by Mpopoma High School who had the highest number of medals of 45.

Mpopoma posted 14 gold, 20 silver and 11 bronze.

Msitheli, whose senior boys’ 4x400m relay team put up a good show, were lying third with 26, consisting of nine gold, 10 silver and seven bronze.

Eleven schools comprise the district, with Enkanyisweni new entrants who appeared to struggle at the bottom of the standings, and Mandwandwe, who had a paltry six medals overall.

William Ncube, the district head in charge, was happy with the proceedings.

Wednesday is the second day of the championships, and Ncube was happy with the improvements in field events.

He is wary of Reigate in the provincial finals.

Mzilikazi is made up of Ihlathi, Mpopoma, Mandwandwe, Magwegwe, Sikhulile, Msitheli, Enkanyisweni, Njube, Lobengula, Sizane and Nkulumane.
