Bulawayo, Zimbabwe— SIGNIFICANT investments are required to modernise essential transmitters, equipment, and infrastructure to speed up Zimbabwe’s digitalisation project, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere.

At the ongoing Pre-Budget Seminar at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, Dr Muswere presented his recommendations for the 2025 National Budget, emphasising the critical need for increased funding to support Zimbabwe’s lagging Digitalisation Project, which is nine years behind schedule.

In his remarks, Minister Muswere outlined the significant investments required to modernise essential transmitters, equipment, and infrastructure, noting that the Ministry’s proposed budget for 2025 is only 5 percent of what is necessary to fulfill its mandate.

He warned that this insufficient allocation would severely hinder the Ministry’s ability to implement its programmes effectively.

“The role of the Ministry in informing and educating the nation is vital as we strive to achieve Vision 2030,” Dr Muswere said.

He said many regions in Zimbabwe lack adequate television and radio coverage, which contradicts the Government’s policy of leaving no one behind.

This gap in media access leaves many Zimbabweans underserved and uninformed about critical national issues.

The Minister’s call for a re-evaluation of the budget allocation underscores the urgent need for the Government to prioritise digital infrastructure development, ensuring that all citizens have equal access to information and communication services.

As discussions continue, stakeholders are urged to consider the long-term benefits of investing in the nation’s digital future.
