Seasoned contemporary Afro Pop and Jazz musician Nomathamsanqa Nkwali proved to be a musical Goddess, a Queen in her own right as she re-defined herself through a well-attended gig at a Bulawayo leisure centre last Friday, as she delivered a polished and flowing performance.
The gig came after a while with Nkwali, a globetrotting phenomenon, who had several years without staging a show in her mother city-Bulawayo. Friends and fellow artistes came in full support as they paid to watch Nkwali perform.

Local famous people we were in attendance are Insingizi’s Ramadu and Blessings Nqo, Jeys Marabini, poetess Sthandazile Dube, Mbongeni Marcel Nxumalo, Charles Mahlaba, Ezra Tshisa and Omega Sibanda, to mention a few.
Throughout the evening, Nkwali belted out some of her hits from a comprehensive set list as she incorporated songs from her prolific catalog, including Halala Lozikeyi, Nyawo Lwami, Mntanami, Mbungazeni and many more.
Special requests from fans were welcomed by the songstress as at some point she did a cover song for the legendary Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

The gig was complemented by creatives like Jeys Marabini, Thandi Dhlana Sthandazile Dube as well as the guest artiste Blessings Nqo who also had a chance to feel the mic.
“It had been a while since I performed locally as Nkwali. I am happy that I hosted this event at Vivo Safari, as it allowed me to reconnect with my fans. I was amazed by the number of attendees as they came to support me. It’s an honour to receive such blessings and support from the people of Bulawayo as it gives me courage to continue doing great music,” said Nkwali.
At the gig, Nkwala also launched her latest track titled Sengihamba which she composed together with Dumisani Gumpo, with Ezra Tshisa Sibanda credited on the production.
The song proved to be the fans’ favourite as they fell in love with it and sang along.
