MINISTER of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube has announced that parking fees charged by local authorities, nationwide, will be reduced by 50 percent.

This comes as part of government’s review of licences, permits, levies and fees in the transport sector in line with the earlier Cabinet decision, which approved the implementation of a raft of business reforms in twelve sectors of the economy.

Speaking during a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Professor Ncube confirmed that parking fees were among the levies that would be reduced under the review.

“We have decided to cap these parking fees charged by local authorities, which are exorbitant, to 50 percent of what they are charging. This will go a long way in improving the cost of doing business,” said the Minister.

In Bulawayo, the city’s parking management system partner, Tendy Three Investments, TTI, is charging US$1 per hour as parking fees. Motorists in the city also can purchase a US$4 daily package.

TTI runs the city’s parking management, having been awarded the tender in 2020 under a build, operate, and transfer (BOT) arrangement with Bulawayo City Council getting 30 percent from every dollar generated.
