Redcliff Municipality is charting an ambitious path towards attaining city status by 2030, with plans afoot to relocate its Central Business District (CBD) closer to the highway, a strategic move aimed at unlocking economic potential and attracting investment in the burgeoning tourism sector.

Speaking to Zimpapers Business Hub at the ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo in Mutare on Thursday, municipal spokesperson Mr Michael Magoronga said the decision is aligned with the local authority’s long-term development blueprint.
“Our vision is to become a city by 2030. We plan to relocate the central business district to closer to the highway where there is economic activity,” said Mr Magoronga.
The proposed relocation, he said, is anchored in the municipality’s draft master plan, which outlines land utilisation and infrastructure development priorities in anticipation of city status.
“We are guided by our proposed master plan. We have enough land 6 400 hectares and only 50 percent is currently utilised,” he said.
In line with the town’s diversification strategy, Redcliff has earmarked a significant portion of land specifically for tourism-related infrastructure.
“About 2 000 hectares is reserved for tourism-related development,” said Mr Magoronga.
The strategic move is expected to position Redcliff as a key investment hub, leveraging its proximity to major transport corridors to stimulate commerce, hospitality, and local enterprise.
The municipality’s participation at the premier tourism expo reflects its growing confidence and determination to reposition itself as a modern urban centre ready to compete at national and regional levels.
