HUNDREDS have converged at the Chief Mabhikwa homestead in Jotsholo, Matabeleland North, where Zanele Khumalo is being introduced to the community as Regent Chief Mabhikwa.
Zanele will be regent chief for the coming nine years as successor to the Mabhikwa Chieftaincy. A nine-year-old, Wayne Makhosemvelo Khumalo, will only assume the position when he is 18 years old.

Provincial Council of Chiefs chairperson Chief Siansali, is leading the traditional ceremony attended by officials from Government departments as well the community.
This is the first time for the Mabhikwa chieftaincy to select a female to the position of a chief.
Wayne Makhisemvelo Khumalo, who is the substantive chief, is the son of the late Vusumuzi Khumalo, who died in 2022 following a road crash along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway.
Zanele, is the elder sister to the late chief.
