IF it wasn’t for President Mnangagwa we were going to wallow in poverty, members of the Former Footballers and Coaches for ED have said.
The football legends revealed this during their meeting held at Crescent grounds in Bulawayo on Saturday.
In unision, the members, who comprised some coming from other provinces, made a firm resolution of supporting Constitutional Amendment Bill No.3, saying they are fully behind Vision 2030.
National chairperson of the Former Footballers and Coaches ED, Balon Chiseko said now is the time for football legends to be recognised for their contribution to national development and for them to align with Vision 2030.
“This move was driven by the fact that former players and coaches were put in the archives and forgotten. Our sacrifices were forgotten the moment we left the football arena. But, because of President Mnangagwa, in the Second Republic, we have been allowed back to the limelight as legends,” said Chiseko.
He said they remain loyal to the objectives of Vision 2030.
“In this regard we are excited to be part of Vision 2030 and continue to support the President.
“In light of this inspiring positive change, the Former Footballers and Coaches for ED would like to put an official statement on the much discussed topic in the nation, the Constitutional Amendment Bill No.3. We are in full support of Amendment Bill No.3. We believe it is vital for the development of the nation, national direction amd shaping governance system of Zimbabwe.”
Zimbabwe Saints legend Ebson “Sugar” Muguyo said it is pleasing that they were now getting recognition, having played football only to get fame without fortune.
“We played football that did not give us pension. Thanks to President Mnangagwa for elevating us. We now have pride in ourselves,” he said.
Highlanders great, Douglas “British” Mloyi said: “We stand resolute in our support for Vision 2030. Really, we have to make sure we support the Constitutional Amendment . For us President Mnangagwa has shown that he is a listening President. Our concerns are heard and solved. We are grateful,” said Mloyi.
Earlier, before the football legends met, they partook in an exhibition match, showing spectators what they had in their prime years in the game.
Chiseko hinted that in the coming days they will be visiting other provinces and districts , pushing the Vision 2030 mantra.
