FORMER Hwange and Railstars bulldozer Vusa “Mbesuma” Ndlovu has taken a swipe at Highlanders FC, urging the Bulawayo giants to beef up their squad with bigger, more imposing players if they want to compete at the highest level.
Ndlovu, known for his own towering frame and bruising style of play, was back home from Saudi Arabia and took time to watch Bosso’s clash against MWOS. What he saw left him unimpressed.
“I watched Highlanders versus MWOS and honestly, the boys are too small. Compared to the teams of old, there’s no physical presence,” said Ndlovu, whose nickname came from Zambia’s legendary powerhouse striker Collins Mbesuma.
He believes modern football demands size and strength, especially in competitive leagues where muscle often beats magic.
“Nowadays teams go for size first. If you’re a small player, then you must be extremely talented to survive. But most of these boys don’t have that X-factor,” he added.
The comments are likely to spark debate among Bosso fans and technical staff, as the team struggles for consistency in a physically demanding Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
While flair and finesse have their place, Ndlovu insists Bosso needs to balance it with raw power or risk being bullied off the park.
