Residents 0f Glen View, Glen Norah, Highfield and Budiriro have gone for over four days without water, raising the spectre of water-borne diseases.
Taps in the affected residential areas ran dry on May 4.
Ms Tsitsi Mashavave of Highfield said although it was understandable that council has to undertake several refurbishments at Morton Jaffray Waterworks and replace some of the old pipes, it was equally important to notify residents when the local authority cuts supplies.
It was also advisable, she said, for City of Harare to provide water bowsers to affected suburbs.
“We understand that they have refurbishment works to do but waking up to dry taps without notice from the council authorities is not ideal.
“At least they should warn us so that we make appropriate preparations for the time we will be without water,” she said.
However, the Harare City Council (HCC) yesterday apologised to residents, saying the interruptions were longer than anticipated.
“HCC apologises to water customers in Highfield and Glen Norah for the interruption of water supplies from Friday 4 May to date due to a pipe replacement programme along Glen Eagles Road, from Southerton Police to Gravesand Road,” the statement read.
“The work took longer than had been anticipated. However, stakeholders in the affected areas should start accessing water end of today (yesterday).”
