We can’t give up: Taurai Mangwiro

bHARARE City coach, Taurai Mangwiro, said they are not giving up their battle for survival after their 1-1 stalemate against Ngezi Platinum Stars on Saturday.

Timothy January put the Sunshine Boys ahead in the 66th minute before Qadr Amini restored parity for in-form Madamburo.

Speaking after the game, Mangwiro said this has been a challenging season for his side.

“I thought we were drilled as a team,” he said.

“After a caged first half, we came back strongly in the second half and got the much-needed goal.

“Somehow we could not hold on to it as we allowed them to come back with nine minutes to go.”

He added:

“We had a difficult time trying to hang in there as they came at us.

“We need not despair and we need to keep fighting. I am sure we will survive.

“Good that there are positives in the way the players are playing.

“We just need to impart some mental toughness into the players.

“We need to soldier on despite things being pretty tough.”

He was aggrieved that Ngezi equalised when his two players, Innocent Zambezi and January, were both down after being injured.

“We need to concentrate on our own games.

“Destiny is in our own hands. We shouldn’t worry much about what other teams are doing.

“There are still 12 points to play for, if we can get all of them, and add to the 28 points we already have, we should be able to survive. “We need to keep believing, we are not going to give in,” he said.

Ngezi interim coach, Takesure Chiragwi, was happy with his team’s performance and believes that with a bit of luck, they could have won the match comfortably.

“Harare City is not a team you can just come and beat the way you think.

“It’s an organised team with experienced coaches. Tactically, they are good.

“They are fighting relegation and they were throwing everything they had and, at the end of the day, we are happy we managed to get a point, which is a plus for us,” Chiragwi said.
