Residents in Bulawayo are set to experience a fresh addition to the city’s entertainment scene with the launch of Nexus Rooftop, a new restaurant and bar replacing The Vista, which closed last month.
The venue (formerly Horizon), arguably the best in the city with its rooftop setting and swimming pool, has been revamped and promises to deliver a unique and vibrant atmosphere.
Launching in style, Nexus Rooftop will officially open its doors today, aligning with Valentine’s Day — providing couples with a perfect setting to celebrate love and strengthen their bonds.
In an interview, Nexus Rooftop manager, Wushe Wushe, assured patrons that everything is in place for the grand opening. He said the restaurant, which attracted over a thousand job seekers, has carefully selected top-tier staff through a competitive interview process.

“We’re ready to open, and we promise great food and an unforgettable vibe. It’ll be the ultimate entertainment destination in the city,” he said.
“We welcome a mature crowd because, as we say, ‘we definitely don’t dance with our daughters’. The place is going to be spectacular — it’s going to be a blast. The venue itself is stunning and truly iconic,” Wushe said.
Beyond being a premier entertainment spot, Nexus Rooftop aims to support and showcase local talent.
“It’s high time we start exporting our own sound and creativity to Africa and beyond. We cannot remain mere consumers of music and art. Bulawayo is rich in artistic talent, and we need to cultivate our own beats and cultural expressions. Nexus Rooftop will actively seek ways to promote local talent,” Wushe added.
On Monday, the club went viral as hundreds of job seekers were pictured in a queue waiting for interviews. Wushe described it as a bittersweet moment, as they could only select a few from the over 1 000 hopefuls who turned up.
“We had over 1 000 people showing up for the interviews, and it felt unfair to pick just 30, as we had initially planned. The unemployment situation is dire. We had young graduates from culinary school applying for chef positions, alongside experienced chefs — some returning home after working in South Africa for over 12 years, others from reputable hotels across the country.
“It was overwhelming to see so much talent, and it really made me question how to handle this. Turning away so many brilliant candidates was incredibly difficult,” he said.
In the final preparations for the launch yesterday, the venue was buzzing with activity as staff and management made last-minute touches to ensure a seamless and grand opening.
