THE Warriors of Zimbabwe are set to lock horns with neighbours South Africa on 10 October in a 2026 Fifa World Cup Group C qualifier at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, a clash that might be a dead rubber on paper but burns with pride, passion and purpose.

Zimbabwe is out of the running for a slot in the global showcase but can crash South Africa’s chances.
Anchored at the bottom of the log and still searching for their first win of the campaign, the Warriors are out to play party spoilers against a confident Bafana Bafana side that beat them 3-1 in Bloemfontein in June 2024.

“The Warriors are in full camp, united, focused, and ready for battle against Bafana Bafana. Morale is high, spirits are strong, and the team is determined to deliver a performance that restores pride and signals Zimbabwe’s football renaissance. This is more than a match,” declared vice-captain Teenage Hadebe.

He added with conviction: “It’s about showing Africa that Zimbabwe is on the rise.”
Former skipper Knowledge “The Smiling Assassin” Musona echoed the optimism, expressing joy at being part of a focused and determined squad. He promised fans a display of grit and patriotism worthy of the jersey.

As the Warriors prepare for their regional derby, the global football stage is already lighting up with teams confirming their spots for the expanded 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Africa now has three nations officially qualified; Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt, while Ghana are almost through unless they lose to Comoros and Madagascar produce a freak result against Mali that overturns an eight-goal deficit.

The continent has nine automatic qualification slots and one intercontinental playoff position still to be decided.

For Zimbabwe, tonight’s mission in Durban is clear, reclaim pride, restore belief, and remind the continent that even without a World Cup ticket, the Warriors still have the heart to roar.
