East MP Cde Tracy Mutinhiri from Parliament to allow the due process where she will be allowed to appeal against the party provincial leadership’s decision to revoke her seat.
Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa yesterday said a determination on Cde Mutinhiri would be made after the national disciplinary committee has deliberated on her case.
She is also the Labour and Social Services Deputy Minister.
“There has to be a meeting of the national disciplinary committee chaired by Cde SK Moyo. The case has been referred to that committee. It will be only after that committee has deliberated that we will chart the way forward,” Cde Mutasa said.
If the national disciplinary committee upholds the dismissal, it means the party, through it’s secretary for administration will write to the Clerk of Parliament advising him of their decision to recall her.
The country’s constitution allows a political party to write to Parliament, through advising that an MP is no longer representing their interests in the House. The letter alone is sufficient for Parliament to withdraw all privileges the MP was enjoying.
A senior Zanu-PF Politburo member yesterday said the national disciplinary committee can meet “as and when it is necessary”.
Cde Mutinhiri was recently found guilty of violating the party constitution by the Mashonaland East provincial disciplinary committee.
She was found guilty of violating Article 3, Section 18 (1) for failing to be loyal to the party, failure to conduct herself honestly and honourably in her dealings with the party and public, bringing the party into disrepute.
The provincial disciplinary committee was chaired by provincial party deputy chairperson, Cde Stephen Chiurayi while the provincial management committee led by provincial chairperson, Cde Ray Kaukonde upheld the decision.
Cde Mutinhiri has vowed to fight her suspension and expose all the people behind her ouster.
Responding to the allegations, Cde Mutinhiri said the disciplinary hearing was null and void as she was supposed to be a member of the National Consultative Assembly and cannot be tried at provincial level.
She had also complained that a letter of her suspension was only delivered late into the afternoon, leaving her with no time to respond to the suspension.
This, she averred, was a clear sign that there were people trying to destroy her political career.
Cde Mutinhiri believes her problems were being stirred by people who wanted her constituency and farm.
During the hearing, Cde Mutinhiri was found guilty of failing to discharge her duties as a party representative. She also was found guilty of failing to attend party meetings.
