WECRE8TE a group in Bulawayo is empowering poets aged between 15-25 years by providing them with a platform and tools to grow their talents.
It is an initiative launched by SoxThePoet that was founded in 2023 to mentor, and empower young people and develop their creative and technical skills.
In an interview, the secretary of WeCre8te Nomqhele Nkomo said the goal is to help young creatives get a platform to express themselves and showcase their talents.
“The initiative is aimed at using creativity as a tool for social change, and it offers workshops, classes, and other programs that help young people express themselves and find their voice.
“It also provides a platform for young people to showcase their work and connect with other creatives,” said Nkomo.
Nkomo said the initiative is mainly focused on grooming poets in the city.
“The initiative is solely focused on poetry but we do coordinate with musicians in some programmes. Our programs are designed for young people between the ages of 15 and 25.
“This age range is considered to be a critical time for social development and it is a time when young people are seeking opportunities to explore their interests,” said Nkomo.
She stated that they are currently working on a poetry show that is set to be aired on 17 February.
“We are currently working on a poetry show, Love, Hate and Everything in Between which will be held on 17 February at the Garden Court. We are also working on a show that will be on 8 March titled “Everything is Poetry,” she said.
