A 37-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo who let hunger get the better of him has appeared in court facing a charge of unlawful entry and theft after he broke into a flat and stole eight kilogrammes of meat, alcohol, cellphone, and money.

Shepherd Ncube appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube facing a charge of unlawful entry and theft. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded to 30 January for sentencing.

When asked by the magistrate how he opened the door, he stated that the door was not locked.

“I did not use any weapon to open the door, the door was not closed,” he said.

The court heard that on 28 January 2023 at around 3 am at some flats in the central business district, Shepherd broke into Siyabonga Ncube’s room and stole a Samsung cellphone, US$151, 8kgs of meat and alcohol and fled.

Siyabonga saw Shepherd as he was leaving and informed his friend, and they followed him. The two gave chase of Shepherd and they caught him along George Silundika Street, and took him to the police.
