The initiative was founded by SoxThePoet and it aims at nurturing and equipping different poets with skills to became successful in their craft. The group has seven female poets. The event was run under the theme ‘words matter’ and it emphasised the power of words on both the speaker and the listener. The secretary of WeCre8te Nomqhele Nkomo said their aim is to support local poets in Bulawayo.

“Our goal is to support poets in the city and we do this through providing them with a platform to showcase their talents. Over the weekend, we had an open mic session where people were given a platform to showcase their talents,” she said.

Nkomo said they performed alongside various artists and violinists.

“We had an awesome experience and we performed alongside some talented artists like Reilo Viekk and Emma the Violinist,” she said.

Nkomo stated they use poetry as a tool for social change.

“We have poetry shows every month and we always have new themes for every session. As an initiative, we use poetry as a tool for social change, and we offer workshops, classes, and other programs that help young people express themselves and find their voice,” said Nkomo.
