AT least 40 people have developed cholera symptoms after attending a wedding in Harare.
There were about 350 guests at the ceremony.
Five cholera cases have been confirmed within this group.
This comes at a time that the country is battling to contain the cholera outbreak.
As of Friday, a total of 2 563 suspected cholera cases, 16 laboratory confirmed deaths, 49 suspected cholera deaths and six-hundred and twelve (612) laboratory confirmed cases were reported.
Council spokesperson Innocent Ruwende said 40 wedding guests developed cholera symptoms.
“There was a wedding on the 10th of June at a resort in Harare, around 350 guests attended,” he said.
“At least 40 of them developed cholera symptoms some few days after the wedding and, as on 16 June, five had been confirmed to have cholera.
“The guests were from Marlborough, Budiriro, Glen Norah among other areas and some from outside Harare.
“We expect more cases as secondary cases arise from these, we urge residents to continue practicing good hygiene to mitigate the spread of cholera.”
