Veteran gospel musician Abel Dube continues to make his mark on Zimbabwe’s music scene through his distinctive Afro-fusion sound, blending Rhumba, Afro-Jazz and traditional gospel elements.

Dube’s musical journey dates back to the mid-1980s when he began singing in school and church choirs. His passion for the arts later expanded into drama, where he joined Amasiko Drama Theatre and the Lion Youth drama club at Emakhandeni Secondary School.

In 1997, he launched his solo career with his debut album Ngamfumana.
“That album was very personal. It was my way of sharing how I found Christ and how my life changed,” he said.

In the same year, he formed his group, The Royal Priesthood, which went on to release several projects, including Prayer for Zimbabwe (2000) and Ngizophumelela (2005). One of their standout tracks, Siyashadisa, became a household favourite, particularly at weddings.
“We were invited to perform at many weddings because people connected with Siyashadisa.

It became more than just a song, it became part of people’s celebrations,” he said.

Now, in 2026, Dube has returned with a new six-track album titled Simdumisa sikoBulawayo, which is already making waves.
“This album is a declaration of where we come from and a call to God for revival, especially in Bulawayo. We are praising, but we are also praying,” he said.

The project carries messages of faith and social consciousness. Songs such as I Will Praise Jesus encourage young people to steer clear of substance abuse, while Namatai Mwari calls for repentance.

“I’m targeting everyone, especially the youth, to show them that joy can be found in praising God rather than in destructive lifestyles,” Dube explained.

He added that his music is deeply rooted in his calling as a pastor.
“My inspiration comes from God, the Bible and what’s happening in society. I use music to minister and to speak hope into people’s lives,” he said.

The album was recorded at Ingwe Studio, House of Rising Sounds and Destiny Praise Records, with production handled by Abraham Lungu. His music is available on YouTube and other digital platforms.

Dube, who is also a pastor at Spirit And Word Global Church, continues to balance music, ministry and business.
“Music is not just a career for me — it is a calling. Everything I do is meant to uplift and bring people closer to God,” he said.
