WE are entering a double-header of Independence and Easter holidays, buoyed by the joy of being reminded that Jesus hung on the cross at Golgotha on Good Friday. For those who love Him, who never dies, will have eternal life. We also remember the gallant sons and daughters of the beautiful Zimbabwean soil who sacrificed their lives in the armed struggle to bring us the independence that all patriots must never allow to slip out of our hands for generations upon generations to come.
The independence from racist foreign colonisers of our motherland needs to be protected at all costs from slipping out of our hearts so that Zimbabwe will move forever into brave new futures.
The independence celebrations should be regarded by all as an unceasing call for unity, to shame the imperialist stooges among our own people who seek power not to align with our incumbent government’s mantra “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo/a country is built by its own people,” but for self-aggrandizement and the aggrandizement of imperialists. These imperialists never cease to believe that we, black people, need to be supervised by those with white skin for success. The real truth is that imperialists continue to want to yoke us like oxen to plough our land for development, driven by their tireless desire to exploit our rich natural resources for themselves.
Which brings this communicologist to the point that everyone in our country must realise that independence celebrations do not merely mean feasting on that particular day, but should serve as a reminder for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the protection of the freedom we cherish. Through thick and thin, we must remain true custodians of our motherland and its future, ensuring its development, peace, and joy.
Which therefore means that imperialist stooges who still linger among us, working for their masters instead of joining hands with our patriotic majority in developing our motherland, should rethink the selfish intentions of their masters and themselves.
They should rally behind our incumbent government, of the people, by the people, for the people, for their benefit and that of their children and their children’s children, as Zimbabwe will never become an imperialist colony again.
The double-header weekend celebrations also call for imperative safety on our roads, with drunken drivers facing the wrath of the law for the safety of others. News on local radio indicates that traffic police officers deemed negligent in enforcing the law on the roads for the safety of other road users during the holidays will be punished.
Officers who allow defective vehicles to ply routes, causing injuries or fatalities to other road users, will reportedly face the wrath of the law, just as reckless motorists will not go unpunished. It is also important to warn inebriated pedestrians to avoid using busy roads when returning home from drinking beer, as they will be at risk of being injured or killed by speeding motorists. Similarly, cyclists and pedestrians should exercise extra caution on busy roads at night. This means that the Easter and Independence holidays should be remembered with joy.
