But after suffering defeats in a one-off Test and losing all three games in the One-Day International series, Zimbabwe are hoping to spring back to life in the shortest version of the game.
Butcher, who expressed his desire to see more confidence in the play by his charges, said they have fifty-fifty chances but he was worried about his side’s recurrent negative mental approach.
“This is a quick game of cricket. We have to react to the situation, so I hope that mentally we will be ready in order to bat to whatever Pakistan confronts us with,” he said.
“We hope to play good cricket and if we will have to sneak a win then that will be excellent because I think we have played enough good cricket to deserve to win at least one match against Pakistan. We have a very experienced batting line-up. Our seam bowling attack has also stepped up and improved,” he said.
Zimbabwe’s performance has come in fits and starts and recently they have seen good performances in players like Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza and Brendan Taylor, who are expected to play a big role today.
“It’s something that we want to address and hopefully we will stop doing that and come to the end of the game and win,” said Butcher.
Hard hitters Charles Coventry and Cephas Zhuwao were the new names added in the squad this week to boost the scoring rate.
