Bozwell Mudoti, chairman of the event, is hopeful that this year’s edition will be a grand occasion as they are opening a new chapter after having celebrated the 10th anniversary of the tourney last year.
“We had a successful 2010 event which marked 10 years of our existence and we have learnt a lot. There more prizes than last year, in both material and cash, which will be higher than the previous years.
“The tournament is sponsored by several organisations and individuals, which include Savannah Tobacco, Wan Agencies and others. The tournament has managed to bring up players like Tafadzwa Maingire, Bevan Chirere, among others, and so we invite coaches to come and scout for talent,” Mudoti said.
The semi-finals will see Makanda taking on Makarara while Gumbonzvanda play Gangare in the Primary schools girls’ soccer competition. Makwarimba and Chitida will square off while St Barnabas date hosts Anderson or Makanda in the secondary schools girls’ semi finals. In the primary schools boys’ semi-finals Musavadye will take on St Henry Chikurumadziva while Gumbonzvanda will clash with Barnabas in the other semi-final.
Gumbonzvanda will take on St Anne’s Goto while St Henry’s and St Margarets will clash in the secondary schools soccer semi-final. Hosts Anderson Mutiweshiri play Musavadya while Gumbonzvanda will clash against St Anne’s Goto in the netball semis for the primary schools. Gumbonzvanda have a date against St Thomas Chisasike while Anderson Mutiweshiri will play St Margaret’s Chigondo in the secondary schools netball semis.
