WELLINGTON KAMUDYARIWA salvaged a point for Chicken Inn as ZPC Kariba were left searching for their first Castle Lager Premier Soccer League win of the season.
Kamudyariwa restored parity in the 69th minute after Moses Demera had given the hosts a second-minute lead.
The day had started brightly for ZPC Kariba as Demera gave them an early lead after being set up by Tsepo Ranthokoane.
Buoyed by the early goal, the hosts went on to boss the play but failed to turn that dominance into goals.
Slowly, the Gamecocks began to crawl their way into the game and eventually got the equaliser their efforts deserved when Kamudyariwa hit a rising shot from the edge of the box.
Both teams could have won it late on but a draw was probably the fairest result.
The draw was ZPC Kariba’s third stalemate on the bounce having played out draws against Dynamos (0-0) and Nichrut (1-1) in their last two matches.
The homeside’s coach Godfrey Tamirepi appears to be a dead man walking, although he tried to sound defiant in the post-match interview.
“As a coach I can see some improvement in the way the team is playing and am confident that our first win is just around the corner,” he said.
“We came out firing and got the early goal we wanted. It’s just unfortunate that we could not defend that lead. We defended too deep and allowed them to come at us.”
Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas reckoned his side dropped two valuable points.
“The three points were there for the taking but this was a day when our trusted strikers did not come to the party. Yes we are away from home but to me, this is two points dropped than a point gained,” he said.
The draw took Chicken Inn’s points tally to 12.
