LONDON. — Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is in London to try to finalise Arsene Wenger’s new three-year deal. The club’s majority shareholder attended Saturday’s victory, confirming the Frenchman’s new contract is top of the boardroom agenda. Kroenke, who also met chief executive Ivan Gazidis at the weekend, will attend the club’s next board meeting, with Wenger virtually certain to prolong his stay at the Emirates, with a contract worth close to £24million on the table.

The fact he is planning future moves for Schalke’s Julian Draxler, Diego Costa at Atletico madrid and Porto’s Jackson Martinez also points to Wenger extending his stay.

And Wenger admits he wants to sign a new striker this month, saying: “Ideally if it’s possible we’d like another striker, though we have not found anyone.”

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen knows a thing or two about winning the Barclays Premier League and believes Arsenal have that key mentality.

“Keep winning games ugly if you have to, those 1-0 wins where you do not play so well, those are the points that matter in the end,” said Meulensteen.

The Dutchman speaks from a knowledgeable position, having helped Manchester United to three title wins, including Sir Alex Ferguson’s final one last season.

At the moment, Arsenal are showing the hallmarks Meuleensteen insists are necessary.
Wenger’s men weren’t at their best on Saturday, but two goals in five minutes from Santi Cazorla maintained their place at the top of the table.

“In terms of maturity, we have improved,” insisted Wenger. “The fact that we are defensively more stable gives us more of a serene attitude.”

Match winner Cazorla agreed, saying: “We have a strong fighting spirit, that’s something that has changed from last season.
“There were games last year where we’d go 2-0 up and we’d end up losing it or under pressure. For a title-winning team, that cannot happen.” — Mailonline.
