Wenger’s transfer kitty

LONDON. — Arsene Wenger has been tipped to turn Arsenal into title contenders with his £100 million transfer war-chest.
The FA Cup winners are set to announce a new contract for the 64-year-old Frenchman following the capture of their first trophy in nine years at Wembley last Saturday.
Now, Gunners chairman Sir Chips Keswick has reaffirmed the club’s belief that Wenger will be punching the club’s weight higher up the table than this season’s fourth-placed finish.

He said: “I hope he will continue and there will be successes to come in the very near future. We have added one trophy, and we want more.
“Anybody who does a job like that, for as long as he has, deserves every success that comes his way. He did it and I have never seen a man more delighted.”

After leading the English Premier League title chase during the first half of the season, the Gunners fell away before fending off a late burst from Everton to secure fourth place.

Wenger has already targeted a raft of summer signings to improve the squad, including Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, Real Sociedad winger Antoine Greizmann and his teammate Carlos Vela.

Only this week Vela, who smashed 16 goals in 37 League games for Sociedad this season, admitted he would be up for a return to the club that sold him to the La Liga outfit three years ago. — The Mirror.
