CAPS United midfielder, Emmanuel Mandiranga, said the Green Machine were gutted by their early Chibuku Super Cup exit.
Makepekepe fell 0-1 to Black Rhinos at Vengere on Saturday.
Rhinos captain, Farai Banda, scored the only goal of the game to send the army side to the last eight.
Makepekepe had been on a resurgence, going seven games undefeated, before Saturday’s match.
“We were unlucky in the match, as we couldn’t make use of the chances we created.
“Rhinos, on the other hand, utilised one chance and it counted.
“As players, we are gutted considering we were hoping to redeem our bad season in the Cup.
“We wanted honours, but it didn’t work.”
Mandiranga believes it was not their day.
The forward said they were now shifting their focus to the league, where they are aiming for a strong finish.
“It was not our day despite creating several chances.
“We are now focused on extending our current unbeaten run in the league.
“We are trying to get a strong finish.
“If we can, maybe, get into the top four, that will be good for the team going forward.
“We will have something positive going forward.
“The team has a number of challenges that get to the players at times.
“But, I think, on the field of play, the team always tries its best and we are just unlucky.”
In other Chibuku Super Cup matches played on Saturday, Herentals got the better of Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-1.
Tino scored a beauty for the Students.
Chicken Inn also secured their place in the next round with a 2-0 win over Harare City at Luveve.
FC Platinum dismissed Tenax 2-0.
