ZIMBABWE fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani says they are not getting carried away after yesterday’s impressive 8-wicket win over Oman in their first Group B match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Colombo.
Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first. With the bat, Oman’s innings never gained momentum, crumbling to 27/5 inside the first six overs. Pace bowlers Blessing Muzarabani (3/16) and Richard Ngarava (3/17) inflicted early damage, while Brad Evans (3/18) cleaned up the lower order. Brian Bennett ruled with the bat, with an unbeaten 48.
Muzarabani, who was voted man of the match, said they have to remain focused in a group that also has Australia, Sri Lanka and Ireland.
He said they will remain focused on their remaining matches despite today’s win as they are set to play Australia on Friday.
“I am not getting too carried away though, it’s just one game we have won and we have got a lot more to play,” said Muzarabani.
“It’s one game at a time, as I always say, and shifting to the next game, a good ball will always be a good ball, and we’re just taking it one match at a time.
“The challenge is going to get tougher, but we’re ready for it, and we’re looking forward to the next one.
“I was a bit apprehensive coming into the game, having just gotten past an injury, but the team rallied around me and gave me the confidence to go out there and perform,” he said.
Muzarabani said they were able to adjust to the pitch, which had difficult conditions with the bounce.
“I was surprised by the bounce of the ball, and the pitch was a bit skiddy at times, but we managed to adapt and make the most of our chances.
“I am thrilled to have been named man of the match, it’s a great feeling and a testament to the team’s hard work,” he said.
